Movies in Virtual Reality

the_martian_vr.jpg"The Martian," the latest virtual reality experience based on a movie was released this week, allowing fans of the movie to step inside Mark Watney's spacesuit and do all the things he did in the movie. While reviews of the experience are mixed, new VR content is exciting and coming at a fast pace. Also this week, Industrial Light & Magic's ILMxLAB released a 90 second 360-degree Star Wars teaser for Rogue One. At their Oculus Connect developer conference, Facebook owned Oculus Rift promised to fill the gap of VR content announcing plans for Blade Runner 2049 and Disney VR content. Black Friday 2016 is looking quite promising for the VR industry with a recent report from Consumer Tech Association citing 700,000 headset sales this 4th quarter holiday season.  

 

Verizon Making Cities Smart

Verizon acquired LCD WiFi, a developer of outdoor interactive displays. Their Palo touchscreen kiosk provides the community with WiFi, news, emergency alerts weather and community information. The Palo kiosks are slated to be piloted in New Rochelle, New York. 

 

Discover the Core of New York

The Museum of the City of New York has opened it's first permanent exhibit, "New York at Its Core." This interactive exhibition cost just over $10.5 million, included hundreds of people and was decades in the making. Packed with dynamic interactive technology, the exhibit is not only fun and engaging, but it could also help inspire civic change.
